WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of crucial ACC matches -- Saturday against Virginia at 2:30 pm and Sunday against Maryland at noon. The match with the Terrapins will also be Senior Day as Aimee Smith and Liz Proctor will make their final appearances at Leighton Tennis Stadium.

Wake Forest leads the series with the Cavaliers, 20-13. Virginia captured last season's meeting, 5-2, in Charlottesville. The Demon Deacons had won the past 12 meetings before last season.

Virginia -- 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the ACC -- enters the weekend ranked 58th in the most recent ITA poll. The Cavaliers defeated Maryland, 4-3, for their first league victory last time out. The Bechliwanis' sisters lead the way for Virginia. Dora and Marta each have registered 11 singles victories this spring. Kristen James has recorded 10 victories as well.

The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series with Maryland, 25-5. Wake Forest had captured 13 consecutive matches in the series, but the Terrapins were victorious in last season's regular season match up, 4-3. The Deacs did avenge that defeat in the first round of the ACC Championships, 4-1.

Maryland -- 6-11 overall and 0-6 in the ACC -- enters the weekend ranked 56th in the most recent ITA poll. The Terps, who will face NC State on Saturday, are still looking for their first conference victory. 32nd-ranked Ramona But leads the way for Maryland with 12 victories and a 6-2 record in the No. 1 position -- 4-2 in the ACC.

Wake Forest is 10-9 and 2-4 in the ACC -- just one game behind North Carolina for fifth place. With two wins this weekend, the Demon Deacons could earn the fourth seed for next week's ACC Championships.
