Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will open up Atlantic Coast Conference play on Monday night as the Demon Deacons face the NC State Wolfpack at 6 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C. The game will be shown live on FOX Sports Net South with Beth Mowins and Debbie Antonelli. Tip off is scheduled for 6:06 p.m.
The meeting between the Deacs and the Pack will be the 56th overall with the Wolfpack leading 50-6. Last season, the two teams split the meetings, with Wake Forest earning the victory in Raleigh and the Pack taking it in Winston-Salem. The 70-66 victory for the Deacs was the first time in 14 meetings that Wake Forest had defeated the Pack, and just the second time in the series history that Wake has defeated NC State on the road. Although Wake dropped the second game against the ACC rivals by the same margin (70-66), the Demon Deacons will look to return to the court and earn their first conference victory of the year.
Entering the game on Monday, both teams hold a 10-2 record, with the Demon Deacons coming off a 66-61 loss to Kentucky. In that outing junior Cotelia Bond-Young hit six straight three-pointers in the second half, en route to seven total -- both a career high and a Wake Forest record for most three pointers in a game. On the season, Bond-Young is averaging 3.17 three pointers per game for an average of 15.7 points, while fellow junior Liz Strunk and red-shirt sophomore Porsche' Jones also contribute to Wake's impressive non-conference season with 14.3 and 11.7 points per game, respectively.
The Pack, who took home two tournament titles during the non-conference season, will look to forward Tiffany Stansbury to help lead them in the conference opener. The junior has posted five double-doubles on the season and leads NC State in both scoring and rebounding with 12.1 points per game and 8.0 boards per game.
A win against the Pack would up the Demon Deacons overall record in season openers to 6-20, in addition to marking the first season since 1992-93 that Wake Forest would capture its ACC season opener. The last time Wake took home its first ACC victory was on Jan. 10, 1992 with an 85-70 victory over Georgia Tech.
