Winston-Salem, N.C. - Freshman Christine Suggs scored a pair and twin sisters Haley and Tracey Scott each added a goal as the No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team cruised past Radford, 4-0, Wednesday night in Kentner Stadium.
Suggs currently leads the Demon Deacons with 12 goals, while Haley Scott follows closely with 10. The goal tonight against Radford was Tracey Scott's third of the season and helped improve Wake Forest's overall record to 15-0.
Wake Forest jumped right into the game off the whistle bringing the ball down into the Radford circle. Playing tough defense, the Highlanders kept equal control for the first 15 minutes until Michelle Kasold slammed a reverse stick shot at the top of the circle that was saved. Catching the rebound Suggs slammed the ball into the wood and put the Deacs ahead by one.
From there the Deacs took control of the game and kept the ball inside the Highlanders 25. Scoring the second goal nine minutes after the first, Tracey made a short pass to her sister in the center of the circle and Haley finished if off with a quick push. Earning a penalty corner less than two minutes later, Lauren Crandall fired an explosive shot that was blocked by a Highlander defender and resulted in the keeper coming out of the cage. Snagging the ball, Suggs capitalized on the empty goal and scored her second of the night.
The fourth and final goal came in the second half when Tracey Scott and Chelsea Cipriani executed a perfect passing play. Scott took the ball down the near sideline and passed it to Cipriani. Cutting into the circle, Cipriani expertly found Scott, who finished it off with a powerful shot.
On the night, the Deacs outshot the Highlanders 19-1 and took nine corners to Radford's one.
Wake Forest will next face Virginia in the last of two home ACC games before the tournament. Game time on Saturday, Oct. 22 is set for 1 p.m.
