
Wake Forest Volleyball Blanks Florida State, 3-0

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team dominated at the net with a season-high 30 block assists to cruise past Florida State, 3-0 (30-26, 31-29, 30-25), Friday night in Reynolds Gym. Senior Christy Williams led the charge with a career-best 10 block assists, while freshman Shannan Homan recorded seven.
The win improves the Demon Deacons record to 10-9 overall and 3-7 in the ACC, while the loss drops the Seminoles to 5-14 overall and 3-8 in the conference.
Wake Forest had three players hit in double figures, including redshirt freshman Jessica Furlong with 13 kills. Erin Borhart put up the match-high 44 assists, while defensively Klarysa Henry earned 16 digs.
The Demon Deacons controlled the tempo of the first game thanks to strong blocking and took a 21-15 lead before the Seminoles cut it to four-points at 27-23. A block error on the Seminoles pushed Wake back out by five points (28-23) and the two schools teetered points until the Demon Deacons eventually claimed a 30-26 win.
In game two, the Seminoles took the lead with five consecutive points after a tie 20 all. The Deacs did not surrender and brought it within one at 27-26, but the Seminoles scored a pair to bring it to game point. Taking a timeout, Wake regrouped and came out of the break fired up. Slamming down four consecutive blocks, the Deacs overcame the deficit and won game two, 31-29.
The final game of the night was close in the beginning with the two teams battling it out until the 18 all mark. At that point, Wake ran with an 8-1 run and the Seminoles couldn't recover. A block at 28-21 and then another for match point sealed the victory for the Deacs.
On the night, Wake Forest earned a total of 18 team blocks to Florida State's eight. The Deacs also outhit the Noles, .239 to .134.
Wake Forest will return to action at home tomorrow night as the Deacs host Miami at 6 p.m.
