Field Hockey Enters ACC Tournament As No. 1 Seed

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team, who closed out the regular season with a perfect 18-0 record and 5-0 mark in the conference, has received the No. 1seed for the upcoming ACC Tournament, the conference announced today.

The Demon Deacons clinched the regular season title for the third time in the last four seasons and out scored their ACC opponents 13-5. Ranked as the nation's best team all seven weeks of the STX/NFHCA Top-20 Poll, Wake Forest has won the last three national championship titles and two of the three ACC tournament championships.

Maryland, ranked third in the nation, finished the season with a 17-2 overall mark and a 4-1 record in league play to earn the No. 2 seed. Duke wrapped up its season with a 14-3 record and finished 3-2 in ACC competition to earn the third seed. Last year's ACC champion, North Carolina, concluded its season with a 13-5 overall record and went 2-3 in ACC play to earn the No. 4 seed. Boston College went 13-5 with a 1-4 league record in its first year of ACC competition, earning the fifth seed. No. 20 Virginia (8-10, 0-5 ACC) enters the ACC Championship as the sixth seed.

The ACC Championship will begin with North Carolina taking on Boston College at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, at Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The winner of that contest will face Wake Forest at 4 p.m. the following day. Duke and Virginia will square off at 4 p.m. on Nov. 3, with the winner of that match meeting Maryland the next day at 7 p.m. The championship match, which will be carried regionally on FSN South, FSN Florida and Comcast SportsNet, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6, at noon.
