Plackemeier Update, Falls Just Shy Of Single Game Punting Record... Ryan Plackemeier hammered first half punts of 50, 51, 52 and 61 yards. He has kicked a 60-plus yard punt in each of the last five games. In the second half, he nailed a 59-yard punt.
Last time the Deacons came to Doak Campbell Stadium, Plackemeier set the school's 10-punt record with an average of 48.3 yards per punt on 10 kicks. Today, nearly broke the school's five-punt record with an average of 50.6 on seven kicks. The five-punt record was previously set by Harry Newsome in 1983 at Virginia Tech (51.3 avg. on 7 punts).
Boldin Impresses In Return To Tallahassee...
Redshirt freshman Demir Boldin, younger brother of former Seminole Anquan, led the Deacons in receiving. He made four receptions for 58 yards.
Punt Return Yardage...
Wake Forest had allowed 22 punt return yards all season until Saturday. The Seminoles returned the first two punts for 33 yards. The `Noles finished with 63 punt return yards on six kicks. Florida State was averaging 10.1 yards per return, third best in the ACC.
Morton To Boldin Razzle Dazzle...
Wide receiver Nate Morton completed a 37-yard pass to Demir Boldin on the first play of Wake Forest's last third quarter drive. Morton, a converted quarterback, is 3-of-4 for 132 yards and a touchdown in his career.
Marion Scores Twice, Including 67-Yard Touchdown Run...
Kevin Marion's 67-yard touchdown on an orbit sweep in the first quarter was his first carry of the season. It was the second-longest play from scrimmage in 2005 and the longest run by a Deacon since Chris Barclay ran for a 74-yard score against Maryland in 2003. On Wake Forest's final drive, he tacked on a one-yard touchdown run.
Explosive Wake Forest Rushing Offense...
Florida State had not allowed a run of longer than 21 yards until Saturday. The Deacons hit the `Noles with a 67-yard touchdown run by Kevion Marion and then a 31-yard run by Chris Barclay on Wake Forest's next offensive play.
Explosive Florida State Passing Offense...
Florida's State pass play of 61 and 63 yards were the two longest plays against the Wake Forest defense all season.
It's A Fake...
De'Angelo Bryant rushed 23 yards on a fake punt midway through the third quarter. The drive resulted in 29-yard field goal by Sam Swank.
Fourth-Largest Crowd To Watch A Wake Forest Football Game...
Today's attendance of 82,589 at Doak Campbell Stadium was the fourth-largest crowd to ever witness a Wake Forest football game. It was the largest since 1988 when the Deacons played in front of more than 102,000 at Michigan.
"The Jet" Takes Off...
Willie Idlette made a five-yard catch late in the fourth quarter, his first reception since the Nebraska game on September 10. On Wake Forest's final drive, Idlette caught four passes for 35 yards. For Idlette, it was the most passes he'd caught in a game since last year's NC State contest in Raleigh when he caught five.
Randolph Right On Target...
Cory Randolph completed 17-of-24 passes, or 71 percent. After last week's 20-of-25 performance, Randolph has now completed 37 of 49 passes, a remarkable 76 percent.
Different Year, Similar Story...
In the two other trips to Tallahassee, the Deacons lost to the Seminoles 48-24. Today, the Deacons lost by a similar score, 41-24.
The Grobe Era Record Book...
Wake Forest's 415 yards of total offense were the 10th-most by a Deacon team in the Grobe era.
Perfect On Fourth Down...
The Deacons were a perfect 3-of-3 on fourth down -- tying for the most fourth down conversations by a Jim Grobe Deacon team.
41 Points By Florida State...
Florida State's 41 points were the most by a Deacon opponent since last year at Miami (52).
Robinson's Sacks...
Matt Robinson's two sacks were the most by a Deacon since Calvin Pace sacked North Carolina's QB twice in 2002.
Florida State's Total Offense...
Florida State's 587 yards of total offense was the most by a Deacon opponent in the Jim Grobe era, eclipsing Miami's 579 last season.
