Charlottesville, Va. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team lost to No. 13 Tennessee, 5-2, on Friday night in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. The Deacons close the season with a 9-9-1 record.

The Deacons took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when freshman Camelyn Dillon netted her first goal of the season. The Demon Deacons attacked the Vols defense as junior Elizabeth Remy dribbled the ball into the box from the endline. Remy threaded a pass to freshman Amanda Lebo who fired a shot that was headed away from the net. Remy collected the rebound and served the ball to Dillon who netted the goal. Remy's assist on the goal marked her record breaking 11^th on the season.

Tennessee evened the score at the 27:27 mark in the match when Veronique Maranda scored off a corner kick. Genna Gorman served the corner into the box where Kylee Rossi trapped the ball for Maranda who knocked it into the top of the net past Deacon keeper Kaitlyn Doe.

The Volunteers took a 2-1 lead with 3:10 remaining in the half when Maranda scored her second goal of the match. Gorman collected a failed clearing attempt by the Deacon defense and set Maranda up a shot that found the upper right corner of the net.

Tennessee stretched the lead to 3-1 at the 48:31 mark of the match when Ali Christoph scored on a penalty kick. The Volunteers were awarded the kick when the referee whistled a foul against the Deacons as both teams battled for the ball in the air. Christoph knocked the ball into the upper right corner of the goal past Doe.

Wake Forest cut the lead to 3-2 when senior Sarah Kozey scored her eighth goal of the season in the 62^nd minute. Fellow senior Melanie Schneider fed a long through ball to Kozey down the right side of the field, and Kozey beat Tennessee goalkeeper Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart for the goal. With the goal, Kozey became Wake Forest's career points leader with 86, passing former Deacon Anne Shropshire (85 points, 1996-99).

The Volunteers stretched the lead back to two goals in the 66^th minute when Emily Redberg knocked in a goal. Rossi beat the Deacon defense and fired a shot that deflected off the post right to Redberg who scored on the rebound.

Tennessee took a three goal lead in the 71^st minute when Rossi and Redberg connected again, this time Redberg setting up Rossi for the goal on a give-and-go down the left side of the field.
