Field Hockey Places Four On All-ACC Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team placed four athletes on the All-ACC team, while head coach Jennifer Averill was named ACC Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office, Wednesday evening.

Seniors Maeke Boreel and Ariel Meyers and juniors Lauren Crandall and Haley Scott were named to the squad. The coach of the year award for Averill is her third in the last four years and the fourth of her career.

Boreel, a native of Almen, Holland, has scored six goals, including two this past weekend against Boston College. In addition, Boreel has added three assists and started in every game played. Meyers, a core member of the Demon Deacon defense that has allowed just 0.84 goals per game, has also scored three goals in 2005.

Crandall leads the Deacs with 11 assists and has also added six goals, including the double overtime game winner against North Carolina. She also leads the team with 85 shots. Scott, a native of Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., has started every game this season and is second on the team with 10 goals. Scott was also named the ACC Player of the Week after scoring the a pair of goals against Duke for the week ending Oct. 11.

The Demon Deacons enter the ACC Tournament this weekend as the top seed and riding a 22 game winning streak. They will play Friday, Nov. 4 against the winner of North Carolina/Boston College. Game time in College Park, Md. is set for 4 p.m.
