WINSTON-SALEM, NC -
Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser
On the game:
"Asheville did a really great job in the first half of spreading us out. They took advantage of our aggressiveness. They kept coming. I thought that on our part, 17 offensive rebounds and seven blocks and 10 steals, we played hard. It may not have been efficient as we would have liked, but it's our fifth game in 12 days. It was an interesting 12 days where we learned a lot about our team. We will practice tomorrow and get ready for a good Appalachian State team."
On the point guard situation:
"Justin Gray is going to be fine at the point. I think Mr. Magoo could see his turnover totals, and I think that it was time for him to maybe watch someone else at point for a little bit. As I said yesterday at practice, it's so early in the season, it's not even Thanksgiving. You guys knew that it wasn't going to be a seamless transition from our point guard situation last year. The kid (Chris Paul) was the best in the country. We're still tweaking things, which I thought we would be. Again, I have every confidence that Justin Gray is going to be a good point guard for Wake Forest this year."
On Harvey Hale:
"I thought he did a good job of pressuring their point guard. That one thing he is very capable of doing, getting after the quarterback a little. I thought he did a good job of that. I think that pressure created turnover opportunities for us on offense."
On the defense:
"We are at our best when our defense creates our offense. What has happened to us is we have a proclivity to turn the basketball over and give too many easy baskets for the other team. Our field goal percentage defense, which tonight was 37 percent, has been less than 40 percent when you take away the points that we threw the ball to the other team."
On Trent Strickland:
"I think Trent has had a really good five-game stretch. Justin, Eric, Trent, Chris Ellis and Kyle Visser have to be the bedrock of this team. We have to build our team around those five kids. I think you have to say that we're pleased with what Trent has done. He's doing it in practice as well."
UNC Asheville Head Coach Eddie Biedenbach
On the game:
"We got in foul trouble with four or five guys before the half and we didn't have as experience players in there. You have to run good offense to play good defense when you play an ACC team. Wake Forest is a good team and Skip does a great job. We needed to be able to run better offense to keep them on their heels a little bit. We played hard and better than we had during the first few games. We rebounded well in the first half and fell off in the second. We are just not clever enough yet, or have an understanding on what shots to take and which ones to hold off on. We kept them off balance on defense and I thought that was good. "
On Trent Strickland:
"He did a very good job for Wake. He is an energy guy. He stands around and kind of lulls you to sleeps and then when he get the ball he goes to work. He is hard to handle and you can't let a guy penetrate on a straight dribble."
On Kevin Swinton:
"I got a good look at him in high school and he didn't want to come to Asheville. He is a great athlete and a talented young man. Based on what I knew about him, he is a pretty good kid and I am pulling for him. He has great talent and a lot of people tried to recruit him. Skip did a great job in getting him."
