WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- - The Wake Forest women's team will return to Joel Coliseum to host #24 Florida State, Sunday afternoon at Joel Coliseum. Sunday's game will also be the Demon Deacon's annual three-point attack against breast cancer where fans can pledge to match each three point shot made during the game. All proceeds will go to "Friends...You Can Count On".
Wake Forest enters the game coming off a 77-67 road loss to #21/19 Maryland on Thursday night, which dropped the Deacs overall record to 13-9 overall and 2-7 in the ACC. Against the Terrapins, senior Erin Ferrell earned her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while both Porsche' Jones and Liz Strunk put up double figures with 18 points each.
Florida State enters the game with a 20-5 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the ACC that currently puts them in fourth place in the conference. The Seminoles have been on both the AP and ESPN/USAToday polls for the last seven weeks, including a #20/19 ranking after a five game winning streak that included victories over then- #3/4 North Carolina and #23 Virginia Tech. Senior Ronneka Hodges currently leads FSU in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game, while Ganiyat Adeduntan leads the team with 7.3 boards per game.
The series between the Demon Deacons and the Seminoles is one of the youngest between ACC competitors. Only having met 29 times, the series began in 1992 with a 86-83 loss at home for the Deacs. The two teams have continued to meet every season since. Overall, the series is tied at 14 all, with the Deacs leading at home, 8-5. Meeting twice during the 2003-04 season, Florida State took both victories, including an 83-71 win at Joel Coliseum, increasing the Seminoles winning streak to five.
After Florida State, Wake Forest will host North Carolina on Feb. 16 for the second meeting this season against the Tar Heels. From there, Wake will travel to Clemson, S.C. on Feb. 21 for the second to last road trip of the year.
