CLEMSON, S.C. - - Junior Liz Strunk scored a career-high 40 points and broke the school record for most points in a single game, leading the Wake Forest women's basketball team to a 68-60 victory over the Clemson Tigers, Monday night at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Strunk's previous career high was 30, which she ironically achieved against Clemson earlier this year. The previous school record was 38 by Amy Privette on Jan. 2, 1986 against UNC-Asheville.

Shooting 14-19 from the field, Strunk's high was also the most scored by any ACC women's basketball player this season.

With the win, the Demon Deacons improve to 14-11 on the season and 3-9 in the conference, while the Tigers fall to 7-18 overall and 1-11 in the conference.

The Deacs struggled early in the first few minutes of the game and the Tigers pulled out to an early 6-2 lead. A solid shot from beyond the three point arc by Ferrell started the Deacs out on a 7-2 run that put them back into the game. Trading the lead three times, Wake finally grabbed possession of the game when Strunk took control, knocking in 15 of the last 21 points in the half. Getting ahead by as much as 10 at one point with about two minutes remaining, the Tigers chipped away at the small lead and the teams went into the locker room with just a three point difference.

Strunk jumped into the second half right where she left off scoring 15 of the first 20 points including two from beyond the arc. With Strunk on fire, Wake was able to push ahead by as much as nine, but the Tigers closed it to one at 53-52 with a pair from Amanda White. Holding onto the lead, Strunk sunk another for two right under the basket which pushed her up to 31. Continuing to put it through the net and a drive through the lane gave Strunk two more and a free throw pushed her closer to the record. Closing out the night with a trio from the line, Strunk pushed her point total to 40.

Also contributing on the night, Erin Ferrell had 17 points, while senior Jennifer Johnson put in seven. Junior Cotelia Bond-Young had just one three pointer on the night, but five steals rounded out her evening.

For the Tigers three players turned out double digits, including White with 14, Tasha Taylor with 11 and Reggie Maddox with 10. As a team, Clemson pulled down 25 defensive rebounds, while shooting 43.9 percent from the floor.

The Demon Deacons will return home on Thursday night for to host NC State in the final game at the Joel before the ACC tournament. After Thursday, the Deacs will travel to the University of Virginia for the final game of the regular season.
