Women's Basketball Takes On Terps

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team hits the road again Thursday as it travels to Maryland for the first and only meeting against the Terrapins this season. Wake Forest enters the game on a tough three-game losing streak that drops their overall record to 13-8 and 2-6 in the ACC, while the Terps are 16-5 overall and a 5-4 conference mark.
In the last game against Georgia Tech, Wake struggled offensively in the first half but picked it up during the second. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough and the Yellow Jackets pulled it out in the final seconds, 40-37. For the Deacs, senior Jennifer Johnson mopped up under the basket, pulling down a career and game high 13 rebounds, while junior Liz Strunk scored a game high, 14 points.
Maryland comes to the hardwood on a three game winning streak, including a 87-82 victory over Clemson on Sunday afternoon. In conference play, the Terps carry a 5-4 overall record with close losses to Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech. Against the #1/1 Blue Devils, the Terps fell short by three in the final seconds, 60-57. Led by four time ACC Rookie of the Week Crystal Langhorne. Averaging 16.1 points per game, the freshman out of Willingboro, N.J. also pulls down 9.5 rebounds per game.
The meeting between the Deacs and the Terps will be the 55th time, with Maryland leading the series, 43-12. In the 2003 season the two teams met twice, with the Terps taking both of the victories. In College Park, the Deacs have taken nine victories to the Terps 17, while at the Comcast Center, Wake is yet to earn a victory, with Maryland taking the last (and only) three.
After the game on Thursday, Wake will return to Winston-Salem on Sunday to host Florida State. Game time against the Seminoles is set for 3 p.m.
