WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The #36 Wake Forest women's tennis team (10-9, 3-4) will travel to Blacksburg, Va., where the Demon Deacons will face ACC-newcomers Virginia Tech (7-13, 0-8), Saturday, April 9 at noon.
Against the Blue Devils, Wake Forest won five singles matches in addition to the doubles point, handing #12 Duke its first away ACC tennis loss in 14 years. The win also marked the Deacs seventh victory over a ranked opponent this season.
Leading the Demon Deacons this weekend will be senior Karin Coetzee, who earned her seventh straight singles victory against Duke, defeating #111 Jackie Carelton, 6-3, 6-0. Earlier in the week, Coetzee took the only singles victory for the Deacs in the 6-1 loss against Miami.
Virginia Tech, who is yet to bring home an ACC victory, will be led by #119 Anat Elazari. Elazari, a junior from Tiberias, Ill., has compiled a 19-15 singles record and a 20-14 doubles mark this year. Overall, the Hokies have earned a 7-13 overall record, none which have come from a ranked opponent.
