Opening Statement by Florida State Head Coach Mike Martin:
Mike Hyde really was a big shot in the arm for us tonight, to go up there and pitch like he did with a lot at stake really shows great character and I was very proud of the way he pitched. Looking toward tomorrow, we know that we've got our work cut out for us, to get to the finals is going to be an unbelievable challenge but we do have arms available, we'll start Hunter Jones tomorrow. We're not thinking about a second game. We're thinking about trying to win the first one.
On being in this situation at last year's ACC Tournament and winning it all:
Certainly they have that in the back of their minds and they also know how difficult it will be. It's a great accomplishment for this ball club to have won what they have. I'm very proud of them. We just need to line up tomorrow and play well.
On Michael Hyde's longest outing:
Michael threw about 130 pitches, we wanted him to stay out there as long as he could. He definitely ran out of gas and Kevin (Lynch) came in and certainly finished the ball game off. It was a good win for this program. I take my hat off to that bunch over there (gesturing toward Wake Forest). They did a great job to get where they are.
Danny Wardell on how tired the team is now:
Tired? We're not tired at all. We're ready to play as many games we need to to win.
Opening Statement Wake Forest Head Coach Rick Rembielak:
The difference in the game was that we didn't execute on the mound. I think that would have set the tone for us offensively. We had too many walks and got behind their hitters. We had an opportunity to break the ice on Hyde; we had bases loaded and didn't come through after scoring those two runs in the first. We could have really broken the game open, giving us some momentum, giving us a cushion to make our guys feel more comfortable. Florida State knows how to execute. They had guys in scoring position. They know how to move guys over and that's what this game is all about, is execution and performing. That's something a team like Florida State knows how to do and that is why they are so successful.
On the physical state of the team:
I don't think we were tired. What I think it came down to was not being able to throw strikes and once Kip (Byrum) gave up the homerun he seemed less aggressive and didn't attack the strike zone. He got behind hitters and had five walks which did not help. We just didn't get enough hits when we had the opportunities, especially with bases loaded, leaving a lot of guys on base. It would have really helped us out if we could have scored more runs in the early going to gain the momentum.
