Hey Deacon Fans,
This is Andy Goff writing from Bourne, Mass. I have just arrived here on the Cape and so far it is just as I suspected. Everyone has been really enthusiastic about the start of the season and the rest of the summer. It is amazing how much the people get behind their respective teams. My first day on the Cape, I stopped at a local pizza shop for a quick bite. I had to ask the young girl behind the counter directions to the field from restaurant. She gave me the most specific directions I have ever received. She knew everything about the field and how to get there. Frankly, I was shocked. Then she asked me if I was playing for Bourne this year. I responded by saying yes and was about to tell her where I was from when she asked me if I was Andy Goff. Now, I was beyond shocked as she rattled off where I went to school, what position I played and what year I was. A little embarrassed, I asked her how she knew and she said she guessed that the "WF" on my shorts suggested that I was from Wake Forest.
Well, that is just a little taste of what it is like up here. I can't wait to get the season started. I am staying with a wonderful family named the Alives. They live just outside of Bourne in a little town called East Sandwich. The father's name is Vick and the mother is Anne. They have three children Thomas (10), Catherine (8) and Stephanie (6). They have taken a liking to me and me to them. They taught me how to throw a frisbee yesterday after dinner. Much harder than it looks.
Well, that's pretty much all I got for now. The team is beginning to trickle in slowly. The guys are all very cool. Nick Francona (plays at Penn), son of Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona, is on our team so it's neat to hear him tell stories about the major leaguers.
