WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior third basemen Matt Antonelli has been rated by Baseball America as the Cape Cod Baseball League's 13th best prospect from the 2005 summer season.
Following a slow start, Antonelli batted .267 for the Commodores with a home run and 13 RBI. The Peabody, Mass. native not only led Falmouth in runs scored with 34, but was atop the entire league. Antonelli also led the Commodores in walks (22), doubles (8) and was an All-Star for the second consecutive summer.
Said one scout of Antonelli in Baseball America, "He's a better athlete than most third basemen. He has all-around tools, though his power has yet to blossom, to go with a sound approach and strong makeup."
Listed as the 18th best prospect from the Cape a year ago, Antonelli led the Demon Deacons in hitting in 2005 with a .332 batting average, along with five home runs and 35 RBI. He drew a school record 57 walks in 2005 surpassing the previous school record of 55 set by Billy Masse in 1988. Antonelli also scored a team-high 68 runs this season -- tying Dave Lardieri for 10th all-time in single-season school history.
