Head coach Skip Prosser
On the game:
"First of all I'd like to congratulate Virginia Tech. Coach Greenberg did an exceptional job on getting his team prepared to play under very difficult circumstances. I thought his kids played extremely hard. Virginia Tech had 19 offensive rebounds and that is just not acceptable. I thought Michael Drum gave us a big lift in Justin's place and Harvey (Hale) and Trent (Strickland) did some good things as well, but again, I thought their kids played extremely hard and with a lot of passion."
On what is missing on this team:
"Clearly, there are a lot of things missing. Ultimately, those things fall on me. I'm the head coach, and I take full responsibility."
On Justin Gray's absence:
"Justin did not feel well this morning at walk through. But we thought then that he might be able to play. He sat out the walkthrough and got some fluids, but obviously his condition got worse. I found out around 2:00 that he wasn't going to play, but Justin's absence is no excuse by any means."
Head coach Seth Greenberg
On the team:
"This has been a very tough last three weeks. We haven't had a whole lot to smile about. It will give them a chance to feel good about themselves. Put behind them everything that's going on in their teammates and friends' lives, I'm just happy for them.
On the game:
"I thought we played unbelievable. Passion and energy. A.D. (Vassallo) was solid. Obviously I'm not very smart. I haven't played him as much as he earned today. He was so assertive. I can't say enough of Jamon Gordon. His heart, I've been trying to explain to our guys that we have to impose our will to win a game, and I've never seen a person impose his will to win a game like Jamon Gordon. Probably the one play that sticks out of my mind was where he just ripped the ball out of the hands of Trent Strickland. Mentally, physically, emotionally tough of a play in 29 years that I've seen. Chris Tucker did a terrific job."
On playing a box-and-one on Eric Williams:
"We thought we were going to play a box-and-one on Justin Gray. When Gray was out, Ryan Odom said `what do you think about just boxing Williams.' I remembered Jim Valvano did it and it was pretty successful. I told (Wynton) Witherspoon instead of chasing Gray, you are just going to stay in front of Williams. I stood him up and said this is how I want you to guard him."
