JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- Wake Forest will join 14 other teams this weekend, including No. 1-ranked Alabama and six more teams ranked in the top 30, at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate men's golf tournament at The Ridges Golf Club.
The teams will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 more holes on Sunday. Wake Forest is one of five ACC teams in the field.
The Demon Deacons, ranked 19th by the GCAA and 26th by Golfweek, will take a young lineup to the tournament, which is hosted by East Tennessee State. Wake Forest will be represented by two juniors (Webb Simpson and Chris McCartin), two sophomores (Marc Gladson and Dustin Groves) and one freshman (Brendan Gielow). Freshman Travis Wadkins will play in the 54-hole event as an individual.
The fall season has been up and down for the Deacons so far. Wake Forest opened the season with a strong second-place finish in Scotland, followed by two 11th-place finishes. Groves, who owns the team's lowest scoring average (71.11) and Gielow, who finished third in his first collegiate event, have been pleasant surprises.
Wake Forest finished 12th last year in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Deacons won the event in 2002.
