Deacons Just Six Strokes Back Heading Into Final Round

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Wake Forest is just six strokes back of the leader with 18 holes remaining Sunday in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.

Some of the 15 teams competing at The Ridges Golf Club, a par 72, 7,147-yard layout, were nearly through Saturday's second round when play was suspended due to darkness. Play will continue Sunday with the final few holes of the second round, followed by the third and final 18 holes in the 54-hole event.

East Tennessee State (+7), the host school, leads North Carolina (+9) by two strokes. Tennessee (+10) is in third place, followed by Wake Forest (+13) and South Carolina (+17).

Wake Forest freshman Brendan Gielow is tied for seventh place to lead all Deacons. Gielow shot an even par 72 in the morning round, then shot a 2-over 74 in the afternoon for a 146, 2-over total.

South Carolina's George Bryan IV and East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies, both 4-under through 36 holes, are tied for the individual lead.

Wake junior Chris McCartin is 5-over through 36 holes and tied for 23rd place. McCartin had a wild morning round with five birdies and six bogies en route to a 73. Sophomore Dustin Groves is tied for 38th place at 8-over par. Junior Webb Simpson shot an even par 72 in the morning round, but struggled to an 81 in the second round. Simpson had two double-bogies and a triple-bogey on the front nine of his second round.

Deacon sophomore Marc Gladson is 10-over par after shooting an 80 and a 74 on Saturday. Freshman Travis Wadkins, playing as an individual, is 24-over par but settled down after struggling in his first collegiate 18 holes.
