Wake Forest, ranked 20th and without the services of its most-decorated player, travels to Orlando Sunday for what promises to be a very competitive third annual Isleworth Invitational.
The 54-hole tournament, scheduled for Sunday through Tuesday at the par 72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Golf Club, includes five of the nation's top-10 ranked teams. The field also includes Georgia and Oklahoma State, the last two teams to win NCAA championships.
Wake Forest, ranked 20th, will head south without junior Webb Simpson, who broke a bone in his hand earlier this week. The Deacons will be represented by senior Sean Moore, junior Chris McCartin, sophomores Dustin Groves and Marc Gladson, and freshman Brendan Geilow.
Gielow, Groves and McCartin all own scoring averages of under 73 and all three Deacons have top-10 finishes this fall.
Wake Forest, which finished fifth last week at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, will face perhaps its stiffest competition of the fall. Second-ranked Florida, fourth-ranked Clemson, fifth-ranked Oklahoma State, seventh-ranked Tennessee and eighth-ranked Georgia are all in the 18-team field. Other ranked teams participating include Duke (19), Georgia State (14), Georgia Tech (18), North Carolina (11), Texas A&M (17) and Texas Tech (25).
The rest of the field includes Arizona, Florida State, Kentucky, South Carolina, Texas and host Central Florida.
