GREENSBORO, NC - Wake Forest punter and placekicker Sam Swank was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The sophomore from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., nailed field goals of 52 and 37 yards and punted for a net of 44 yards in Saturday's 34-14 victory against Liberty.
This season, Swank leads the ACC in field goal percentage this season (7-of-10). Swank's two field goals against the Flames extended his streak to five consecutive made field goal attempts. The 52-yarder tied Swank's career-long and tied for the third-longest in Wake Forest history. With that kick, Swank became the first Wake Forest kicker to make three field goals of at least 50 yards in his career.
Swank also punted three times for an average of 46.3 and a net of 44.0. He dropped one punt at the two yard-line that was downed by Kerry Major.
Just a sophomore, Swank debuted on Wake Forest's career scoring chart this week. With 120 points, he currently resides in a tie for 16th place with Desmond Clark and John Leach.
Swank becomes the fourth Deacon to earn weekly conference honors this season. Offensive tackle Steve Vallos was the ACC offensive lineman of the week following Wake Forest's season-opening win against Syracuse. Quarterback Riley Skinner was the ACC Rookie of the Week after the win against Duke. Center Steve Justice was the ACC's offensive lineman of the week after the Ole Miss victory.
Wake Forest is 5-0 for just the third time in school history and the first time since 1987. The Deacons are the ACC's only undefeated team.
Wake Forest hosts 15th-ranked Clemson at Groves Stadium on Saturday at noon.
