WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Three Wake Forest players shot in the 60s in today's final round of the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, giving the Demon Deacons an 11th-place finish and a better feeling about the site of the 2007 NCAA Championship.

Wednesday's final round was a solid performance all the way around for 25th-ranked Wake Forest, which saw all five of its players shoot 75 or better on the par 70, 6,809-yard course that will host the NCAA Championship in late May. As a team, the Deacons played the final 18 holes 2-under par to finish the tournament in 11th place. Wake Forest passed BYU, Washington and Minnesota today and came within one stroke of tying Kentucky and Georgia Tech for ninth place.

Florida shot a cumulative 8-under par 272 today to outduel Oklahoma State for the team title. The Gators beat the Cowboys, the defending NCAA champion, by three strokes. Texas A&M finished third and UNLV fourth.

Wake Forest junior Webb Simpson fired his second straight 69 today to finish 1-over par and tied for 11th. Simpson had five birdies on the day including one on the par 4 18th hole. Junior Chris McCartin was consistent throughout the 54-hole tournament, shooting 2-over 72 each day. He finished 6-over and tied for 34th place. Sophomore Dustin Groves closed out his tournament with a 2-under 68 to finish 9-over and tied for 49th. Groves played the front nine today in 3-under 32.

Deacon freshman Brendan Gielow shot a 75 today to finish 15-over for the tournament. Senior Sean Moore rebounded from a disastrous second-round score of 84 to shoot 1-under 69 today. Moore finished 19-over for the tournament.

Florida's Billy Horschel emerged from the pack with a sizzling 7-under 63 today to win the individual crown by two shots over Georgia's Brian Harman. Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon and Arizona State's Niklas Lemke tied for third at 4-under.

Wake Forest's next event will be The Ridges, scheduled for Oct. 14-15 in Johnson City, Tenn.
