Starting Notes...
Two of Wake Forest's defensive starts -- junior LB Jon Abbate (ankle) and senior FS Josh Gattis (ankle) -- were not in the starting lineup. Both players saw a streak of 18 straight starts come to an end, dating back to the Nebraska game last year. Abbate had an injured hamstring that night in Lincoln and Gattis was recovering from a concussion. Sophomore Eric Berry started in Abbate's place and sophomore Chip Vaughn started in Gattis' place. For both Berry and Vaughn, it was their second career starts, but the first of 2006.
When Scoring First...
Sam Swank's 20-yard field goal with 7:16 to go in the first half marked the first points of the game. The Deacons entered the game 7-0 when scoring first. Only once in that stretch did the Deacons lead off with a field goal (Liberty).
Leading After One Quarter...
Wake Forest led 3-0 after the first quarter. The Deacons entered tonight's game 5-1 when leading after the first 15 minutes.
Smith Gets First Interception of Year...
Alphonso Smith's interception early in the second quarter was his first of the year. It was his first since last year's NC State game, one he returned for a touchdown.
Swank Moves Into Top Ten For Career Scoring...
Sophomore PK Sam Swank jumped into Wake Forest's all-time top 10 for career scoring. He passed Phil Denfeld, Matt Wisnosky and Mike Green on Saturday to move into 8th place all-time.
Arnoux Makes First Career Pick...
Sophomore LB Stanley Arnoux intercepted his first career pass midway through the second quarter. It set up a Wake Forest touchdown.
Tereshinski Hauls In Touchdown Catch...
Riley Skinner fired a 18-yard touchdown pass to John Tereshinski to make it 13-0. For Skinner, it was his seventh touchdown pass of the year and Tereshinski's second touchdown catch of the year.

Rich Belton's 33-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the longest run of his career.

Wake Forest blanked FSU in the first half, marking the first time that happened since 1973 -- which was the last time the Deacons beat FSU.

Wake Forest Up At The Half...
Wake Forest led 20-0 at halftime, up at the break for the first time in Tallahassee since 1970. Tonight's game marked the third time in five years the Deacons have led at halftime. The two previous times (2002, 2004) happened in Winston-Salem both ended in Florida State wins.

Kevin Patterson's 52-yard interception return was his first career touchdown and the second defensive touchdown of the year for the Deacons.

Boo Robinson's interception late in the third quarter was his first career pick and the fourth of the game for the Deacons.

The most interceptions in the Jim Grobe era, prior to tonight, was four. The Deacs picked off four East Carolina passes on Sept. 7, 2002 in a 27-22 win.
