Wake Forest head coach Jennifer Averill...

On the game:
"The first half wasn't indicative of our play, and I'll give credit to Maryland. They did a great job. I knew that the game was going to be more or less a battle of who could press the other team and they did a good job. Then in the second half, I thought that we really showed our integrity in our play and our style that has gotten us to this point. We really started to play some good field hockey, and I said to the kids after the game that we put ourselves in a position to tie the game up and we just didn't execute. Its not like they blew us out in the second half, they won the first half and the second half we did a really good job we just didn't capitalize on finishing."

On what determined the style of the game:
"I'm going to give credit to Maryland, they were stepping up better, anticipating better. We just needed to settle down."

On if it hurts more to lose at home:
"I don't care if you are playing on the moon, it hurts to lose. You don't go into games to lose, you go into to win. I hate more to lose than I do to win, and I think everybody on the team feels the same way."

Maryland Head Coach Missy Meharg...

On the game...
"We just feel so proud. The task of defending a national title is never in our definition. We just really wanted to establish a whole way of working with the leadership of Paula and Tina, ET and other seniors. We're just so fortunate to be here and get that win today."

About the team...
"The greatest thing about this team is that they're really hard working and really attentive to the detail of the plan. Today they followed the plan to a "T". One of the things we recognized from last year-winning the championship with the same score-it doesn't matter if its 5-0 or 1-0...all you have to do is be one goal up at the end of the game. I felt very confident with the way we were playing. We just maintained possession, limited the amount of free hits into the circle and didn't give up any penalty corners. I thought the team was just outstanding defensively."

On Wake Forest...
"Wake was defending a young goalie with the injury and we have a tremendous amount of respect for how they've rallied from that."
