WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team has signed three prep players for the class of 2011, head coach Heather Kahl Holmes announced today.
Kelsey Jones (Ada, Mich.), Lauren McIntyre (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Kristen White (Harrison, Ohio) officially committed to join the Demon Deacon volleyball program by signing letters of intent last week.
"We are excited about Kristen, Lauren and Kelsey joining the Wake Forest volleyball family," said Kahl Holmes. "They may be playing three different positions, but they all posses the heart, talent and dedication to help take our program to the next level."
Jones, a 5-10 setter, is a two-time all-state honoree at Forest Hills Northern High School in Ada, Mich. She has helped FHN to a top five final ranking each of the past three seasons, including a state runner-up finish in 2004-05.
She was named second team all-state as a sophomore and again as a junior. Jones is also a two-time all-conference, all-district and all-region honoree.
On the club level, Jones plays with Far Out Volleyball Club. She helped the squad to a No. 5 final ranking at the 2006 nationals, earning first team all-tournament honors as a setter. She was also named the Most Outstanding Setter at the NJC Tournament in Chicago in 2006.
Off the court, Jones is a member of the National Honor Society and was named academic all-state in tennis. She also earned first team all-state honors in tennis, helping FHN to the state championship last season.
"Kelsey is an incredible setter who sees the court better than most and understands the strategies behind running an offense," said Kahl Holmes. "She is a total team player who loves to compete. Her work ethic on the court, in the classroom and in the community makes her the strong, confident person she is today."
McIntyre, a 6-1 middle blocker, is a two-time all-state honoree at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. McIntyre has helped Cathedral to two state championships and two state runner-ups in her four years there.
This past fall, she was named the North Player of the Year, as well as earning all-state and first team all-city honors. In 2005, she led the state of Indiana in kill efficiency.
On the club level, McIntyre has played on the first team for Circle City Volleyball Club for the past seven years. In 2006, she helped Circle City to a fifth-place finish at Junior Olympics. Circle City is the same club team that current Demon Deacons Natalie Mullikin and Sally Fischer played for during their prep days.
Off the court, McIntyre is an active volunteer with Coburn Place (a domestic abuse shelter), Girls United Together as One (G.U.T.S.) and the Cathedral Peer Mentor program.
"Lauren is a true competitor in every sense of the word. She thrives on highly-competitive situations, and she knows how to win," said Kahl Holmes. "Her leadership abilities on and off the court will be an asset for this program. Her passion for the sport and her commitment to excellence shine through every time she steps on the court."
White, a 6-0 outside hitter, comes to Wake Forest after helping the U.S.A. Junior A-2 team to the gold medal at the international tournament in 2005.
White is a two-time all-state honoree at McAuley High School in Harrison, Ohio. She earned first team all-state honors in 2006 and second team kudos in 2005. White finished her McAuley career as the school's career kill leader with 738.
White is a three-time All-GGCL and Cincinnati Enquirer All-City honoree, earning first team honors for both the past two seasons. She was also named first team all-district in 2005 and 2006.
On the club level, White plays for Cincy Classics. She helped the squad win the 17 American Nationals in 2005 and was named to the all-tournament team.
In the classroom, White is ranked in the top five percent of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.
"Kristen is a very talented outside hitter who brings enthusiasm and a competitive drive to the court," said Kahl Holmes. "She excels in the game because of her natural athletic abilities, along with her successful experiences, which include McAuley High School, Cincy Classic Juniors and the A-2 National Team."
