Postgame Quotes
Wake Forest vs. Appalachian State
November 25, 2006

Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser

On the game:
"I'm very happy to get a win. We give a lot of credit to [Appalachian State]. They're a veteran team. We knew they would play well. We did a lot of things incorrectly, but I would rather not dwell on that, I would rather give credit to App."

On Appalachian State point guard D.J. Thompson:
"D.J. Thompson is a good player. We knew that coming in."

On senior Mike Drum:
"Mike was sick today, but he gave us some good minutes."

On playing Air Force:
"Our goal is to be 6-0. They are the best team we have played to this point. It is going to be a real challenge for us. I'm curious to see how we respond to them."

On sophomore Shamaine (Joe) Dukes:
"He did a great job for us. Joe Dukes has been instrumental in us getting off to a 5-0 start."

Appalachian State Head Coach Houston Fachner:

On the game:
"Well, it wasn't a free throw shooting clinic out there. It was a hard, competitive game. We were more concerned about the mentality of our players after a hard loss at Clemson last week. We got down in a hole there for a while, but we responded well to the situation. Wake Forest made some big shots on the free throws. I'm proud of where we are. We grew some tonight and are going to keep trying to find ways to grow."

"We missed some foul shots and jumpers, but we were able to counteract with some good stops and rebounds. We wanted to be up-tempo. I can't complain about the 17 assists --that is the most we have had in a long time. Wake Forest has some good athletes and a quick point guard. We just wanted to execute, but that is not easy when your defense is down."

On Wake Forest freshman Ishmael Smith:
"(Ishmael Smith) got into some foul trouble which was what we wanted. We wanted to limit his play. We tried to keep D.J. (Thompson) on him. Wake is a different team without him. We just wanted to put pressure on the ball. Smith constantly drives the ball down your throat, and we wanted to make him guard that and wear him down. Smith is the straw that stirs the drink."

Wake Forest Player Quotes

Freshman Anthony Gurley:

On the team:
"We are trying to learn every day. We want to go out there and work hard. We have to keep our winning streak going."

On sophomore Harvey Hale:
"Harvey has been a big influence on me. He has taken me under his wing and really shown me the ropes. We play the same position, and he has just really shown me how it works."

On his comfort level:
"I feel much more comfortable with every thing now. I am playing with more confidence, and I want to continue to do that."

Center Kyle Visser:

On the game:
"It was a good win for us. The free throws really helped extend our lead. I struggled some at the line, and we did too, but in the end some of the guys really made some big free throws. Appalachian State really played well."

On Appalachian State's strategy:
"They did what they call `digging down.' Being a big guy, you have to watch every dribble because they have guys like D.J. Thompson who can easily steal the ball away. They always are trying to get a hand on the ball."

On the team:
"We are a young team and very optimistic about this season. We showed some good stuff tonight, and we are going to work on having more quality wins."
