GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three Demon Deacons were selected for Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors, the league announced on Monday, in the aftermath of Wake Forest's 38-24 victory at Maryland.
Junior receiver-turned-running back Kenneth Moore was selected as the ACC's Offensive Back of the Week. Redshirt freshman quarterback Riley Skinner was chosen as the ACC's Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Senior offensive tackle Steve Vallos earned ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors for the second time.
Moore rushed 27 times for a career-high 165 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's win. The Charlotte, N.C., junior also caught three passes for 33 yards and finished the game with 198 all-purpose yards. Moore, who moved to running back at the beginning of November because of injuries, was making his third career start at tailback.
Skinner completed 10-of-15 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown as the Deacons clinched the Atlantic Division title. The Jacksonville, Fla., native also played a key role in the Wake Forest ground game making several key perimeter blocks on misdirection plays that sprung running back Kenneth Moore for long runs, including a 19-yard touchdown run.
Vallos played 71 snaps and graded out with a career-best 96 percent in Saturday's victory. The Boardman, Ohio, senior had 10 knockdowns against the Terps and was instrumental as the Deacons rolled up 296 rushing yards and 421 yards of total offense.
Six different Deacons combined to earn 14 weekly ACC honors this season. Offensive tackle Steve Vallos was the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week following Wake Forest's season-opening win against Syracuse and Maryland. Quarterback Riley Skinner was the ACC Rookie of the Week after the wins against Duke, Florida State and Maryland. Center Steve Justice was the ACC's Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Ole Miss and Boston College victories. Safety Josh Gattis was selected as the ACC's Defensive Back of the Week after the NC State and North Carolina games. Punter/placekicker Sam Swank earned ACC Specialist of Week honor four times, following the Liberty, Clemson, NC State and Florida State wins. Kenneth Moore was the Offensive Back of the Week after the Maryland game.
The 16th-ranked Demon Deacons (10-2, 6-2 ACC) play 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech (9-3, 7-1 ACC) for the ACC Championship in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on ABC.
