CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 2 Wake Forest field hockey team advanced to the ACC Championship finals for the second year in a row and for the sixth time in seven years with a 3-0 victory over North Carolina, Friday evening in Francis E. Henry Stadium. In the win, Lauren Crandall, Michelle Kasold and Haley Scott each scored to improve the Demon Deacons to 18-1 overall.

Wake Forest will face Maryland in the finals on Sunday. The meeting in the championship game will be a familiar one for the two teams, as they have met four times in the final match, including last season. In that outing, the Demon Deacons fell, 3-2. Overall in the championship series, the Terrapins hold a 3-1 advantage when playing in the finals.

Against North Carolina, Crandall scored the first goal of the match with a perfectly placed shot off a corner early in the 12th minute. Scott upped the score once again just over five minutes later as she received a long ball from Jamie Whitten, who was on the left sideline. Stopping the ball just inside the circle, Scott fired it into the corner for the two goal advantage.

Wake came out in the second half and quickly drew two penalty corners, both that resulted in shots that sailed just wide of the goal. UNC did manage its first corner in the 40thminute, but the Deacs defended it successfully and regained control of the ball. Bringing it back into the Tar Heel circle, Wake drew its fourth penalty corner of the game and converted once again as Kasold scored her 17th goal of the season.

North Carolina did manage back-to-back penalty corners during the 58th minute and Wake successfully defended them both. Sophomore goalkeeper Crystal Duffield earned her first and only save of the match during the first one.

On the night, the Deacs had a 17-3 shot advantage and earned five penalty corners to the Heels three. Duffield finished with just one save, while Brianna O'Donnell registered eight for North Carolina.

The Demon Deacons will play in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 5. Game time is set for 12:10 p.m. and will be televised on tape delay on RSN at 5:30 p.m.
