CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Lauren Crandall was named the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Michelle Kasold and Aileen Davis were both selected to the All Tournament squad, as they led the Wake Forest field hockey team to its third ACC Championship, Sunday afternoon.
Crandall, a native of Doylestown, Pa., becomes the program's third tournament MVP and the first since the 2003 season. Against Maryland she took two shots, while over the course of the season she has scored nine goals and added eight assists.
Playing in front of a hometown crowd, Kasold scored the game-winner against Maryland for the 1-0 victory. Overall in 2006, the Chapel Hill, N.C. native has scored 18 goals and added 12 assists.
Davis, a defender from Edinburgh, Scotland, registered no stats during the game against the Terps, but was a crucial part of the Wake Forest defense that held Maryland no shots in the first half and just five in the second.
The Demon Deacons, who have now won both the regular season title and the tournament title, now await a NCAA bid. The selection show will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. on CSTV.
