GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore outside hitter Jessica Furlong has been named ACC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Furlong shares the honor with Georgia Tech's Ulrike Stegemann.
Furlong, who is the first Demon Deacon to earn the weekly award this season, led Wake Forest to a 2-0 record last week. The St. Augustine, Fla. native posted her 13th and 14th double-doubles of the season in wins over North Carolina and NC State.
Against the Tar Heels on Wednesday, Furlong registered a career-high 29 kills and a season-high 18 digs. Her previous career-high for kills was 22 set Oct. 28, 2005, against Clemson.
Furlong followed up that performance with another solid night against the Wolfpack on Friday. She turned in team-best totals of 13 kills and 17 digs in the three-game sweep.
For the week, Furlong led Wake Forest in kills and digs, averaging 5.25 kills and 4.38 digs per game. She has posted a double-double in each of the Deacs' last four matches.
Furlong leads the Deacons in kills on the season with 320, an average of 3.60 per game. She is also second on the team in digs with an average of 2.92 per game.
The weekly honor is the first of the season for Furlong and the second of her career. She was named ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 31 last season.
Furlong and the Demon Deacons (13-11, 9-6) return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Duke for a 7 p.m. matchup.
