COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Wake Forest's Melissa Martin and Michelle Kasold will represent the United States on a trip to China in March as part of the USA Field Hockey Under-21 squad.

The USA will play a series against the Chinese junior team in the country that will host the 2008 Olympic Games.

Martin and Kasold, who helped lead Wake Forest to an ACC Championship and to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament, will play for coach Tracey Fuchs. Martin and Kasold are two of four ACC players on the squad, joining North Carolina goalkeeper Brianna O'Donnell and Duke forward Laura Suchoski.

Kasold is one of four players on the team who played on the 2005 USA Junior World Cup team that earned a best-ever seventh-place finish in Santiago, Chile. Kasold was a 2006 All-American.

Wake Forest, 22-2 in 2006, advanced all the way to the finals of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Maryland. Kasold led the Deacons with 19 goals and 56 points. Martin had one goal and five points as a rookie.

Selected last summer at the National Junior Camp in Virginia Beach, the USA Under-21 team swept a two-gam series from a British Columbia under-21 team during the USA/Canada Field Hockey Challenge in July.

The China tour continues the development of the U.S. junior athletes in preparation for the 2008 Junior Pan American Championship and 2009 Junior World Cup.
