WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman Deirdre Naughton was selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team, as announced by the conference office, Tuesday. The Winnetka, Ill. native becomes the first Demon Deacon since Cotelia Bond-Young in 2002 and just the ninth overall to earn the honors.
The All-All Freshman team, along with the ACC first, second and third teams, is voted on by the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association. Naughton earned the second-most votes of any player on the rookie team.
In her first season with the Deacs, Naughton has made her presence known, scoring in double-figures 24 times, including a stretch of five games with 20-plus points. Averaging 15.0 points per game, she is freshman leader in points and seventh in the league. In addition, she leads the Demon Deacons in scoring through all ACC games, averaging 15.9 per game.
Named the ACC Rookie of the Week twice during the year, Naughton enters the ACC Tournament as the sole owner of the Wake Forest freshman record for most 3-pointers made and attempted and is just seven away from the record for assists and steals.
