Final Stats

DURHAM, N.C. - Sophomore Eric Niesen did not allow an earned run over 6.0 innings and freshman Evan Ocheltree added a pair of two-run home runs to lead the Demon Deacons to a 10-2 rout of Duke Saturday afternoon at Jack Combs Field. Wake Forest improves to 27-12 overall and 11-6 in the ACC, while the Blue Devils drop to 12-28 and 4-13.

Ocheltree went 3-for-5 for his third straight three-hit game. The right fielder, who homered last night and earlier this week against UNC Greensboro, belted his first two-run blast in the Deacs' three-run first inning off Duke starting pitcher Tony Bajoczy. He added another two-run bomb in the top of the third inning as Wake Forest raced out to a 5-0 lead. The four RBI are a career-high for Ocheltree. In four games this week, Ocheltree is hitting .556 with four home runs and nine RBI.

Niesen (3-0) cruised over the first 5.0 innings, allowing no runs and just two singles. The Blue Devils managed to get only two runners into scoring position before the sixth inning. Duke did plate an unearned run in the sixth, but Niesen was simply too much. The southpaw worked a career-high 6.0 innings and did not surrender an earned run. Niesen struck out four and walked one. The sophomore has picked up a victory in his last seven decisions and improves to 8-2 for his career.

Freshman Allan Dykstra gave the Demon Deacons an 8-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. The blast was Dykstra's ACC-best 14th of the season. Dykstra has homered in three consecutive games. The first baseman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Freshman Dustin Hood added an RBI triple in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 9-1. Hood went 1-for-3 with the RBI and run scored. Redshirt senior Grant Achilles added his second career home run in the top of the eighth inning. Freshman Tyler Smith went 2-for-5 and junior All-American Matt Antonelli went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and two runs scored.

Senior Kyle Young tossed the final 2.1 innings and limited the Blue Devils to a pair of hits. The righty struck out two and did not issue a walk.

Bajoczy (1-8) was knocked around for eight runs, all earned, on eight hits in 4.0 innings. The right-handed hurler fanned four and walked one. Andrew Wolcott pitched the final 5.0 innings. Wolcott gave up a pair of earned runs on four hits.

Wake Forest returns tomorrow afternoon with the final game of the weekend series. Redshirt senior Justin Keadle will get the start for the Demon Deacons. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
