
Chris McCartin Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

Wake Forest junior golfer Chris McCartin has qualified for the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship, the most prestigious and oldest USGA championship.
McCartin, who helped lead the Demon Deacons to a third-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Championship, will compete in the U.S. Amateur August 21-27 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. More than 4,000 golfers attempted to qualify for the 312 tournament spots.
McCartin shot a two-day total of 139 (5-under par) at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va., July 26-27 to earn a spot in the field.
The U.S. Amateur Championship was first played in 1895.
