
Men's Soccer Debuts 18th in Soccer America Poll

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team debuted 18th in the Soccer America Preseason Poll Thursday afternoon. The Demon Deacons are also ranked 16th (NSCAA) and 19th (College Soccer News).
Wake Forest extended its impressive streak of consecutive weeks ranked in the top 25 to 64 weeks. The streak dates all the way back to the start of the 2001 season.
The Deacons will face eight teams that were featured in the top 25, including six from the ACC. North Carolina was ranked first, Virginia was ranked third, Maryland was fourth, Clemson was sixth and Duke was 15th.
Wake Forest will also face Connecticut (9th), Penn State (11th) and UNC Greensboro (12th).
Wake Forest opened its 2006 exhibition season this past Tuesday with a dominating 3-0 victory over UNC Wilmington. The Deacons used goals from freshman Austin da Luz, sophomore Jamie Franks and sophomore Marcus Tracy. The goalkeeping trio of redshirt junior Brian Edwards, freshman Akira Fitzgerald and freshman Austin Chelko blanked the Seahawks.
Wake Forest closes its exhibition schedule this Saturday evening against Furman. Kickoff at Spry Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
