Deacons Win Despite Paltry Rushing Numbers...
For the second straight week, Wake Forest rushed for less than 99 yards as a team but came away with the victory. The Deacons rushed for 57 yards against Duke last week and 99 yards against the Huskies today.
Thompson's 86-Yard Interception Return For Touchdown...
DE Jeremy Thompson's first quarter interception return for touchdown went 86 yards. It was the second-longest interception return in Wake Forest history -- the longest since September 24, 1955 when Tommy Whims went 90 yards against South Carolina. It was Wake Forest's first interception return for touchdown since last October against NC State when Alphonso Smith performed the feat.
Sack Attack...
Wake Forest had five sacks as a defense, the most in the Jim Grobe era. Sophomore LB Aaron Curry led the way with two.
Hanging Zeros...
Wake Forest pitched a shutout in the second half. The Deacons blanked Syracuse in the first half in week one.
Micah Into The Endzone...
RB Micah Andrews scored on a six-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. It was his second touchdown run of the season and ninth of his career. On the drive, Wake Forest had two plays of 30 yards or more. On a third down in their own end, Riley Skinner hit Kenneth Moore for a 34-yard gain. Willie Idlette carried on a 30-yard reverse to put the Deacons inside the 10.
Arnoux The Ballhawk...
LB Stanley Arnoux recovered a fumble for the third straight game. He came into the day tied for the ACC lead in that category with Robert Francois of Boston College and Duke's Codey Lowe.
Leading At Halftime...
Wake Forest led at the half 14-13. It marked the first time the season the Deacons led at half. Entering today's game, the Deacons were 19-9 when leading at the half under Grobe.
Idlette: A 30-30 Guy...
Idlette rushed for 30 yards on a first quarter reverse. In the third quarter, he hauled in a 31-yard reception.
Abbate Gets In Double Figures...
Junior LB Jon Abbate reached the 10-tackle plateau for the second straight week and the eighth time in his career (24 career games).
Harris Breaks Off 41-Yard Rush...
Freshman RB Kevin Harris got Wake Forest into the red zone early in the fourth quarter with a 41-yard carry. It was his first tote of the day. That set up a 43-yard field goal by Sam Swank.
Belton Hits Paydirt...
Sophomore FB Richard Belton put the game away for the Deacons with a 6-yard touchdown run with 1:30 to go. It was his first carry of the day.
Swanson Gets Pick...
Senior CB Riley Swanson's interception on Connecticut's final drive was his first of the season and fourth of his career.
