WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

The Wake Forest women's tennis team will host the first of two fall tournaments this weekend with the Deacon Classic, Sept. 22-24 at Leighton Tennis Stadium. The Demon Deacons welcome teams from Dartmouth, Ohio State, Kansas, Indiana, Syracuse, East Tennessee State and UNC Charlotte.

Wake Forest opened its fall season last weekend with a strong showing at the St. Mary's Classic. Freshman Sasha Kulikova won the flight five singles bracket and the second double flight with partner Christian Tara, finishing the weekend with a perfect 8-0 record. In addition, Tara and Sierra Poske each advanced to the finals of the third and fourth singles flights, respectively.

The Demon Deacons will be playing without seniors Christian Tara and Ashlee Davis, who both suffered injuries last weekend.

After this weekend, the team will then participate in the ITA All American Tournament series which includes a prequalifier, qualifier and the main draw. From Oct. 20-22, Wake Forest will play in the ITA Southeast Regional and then close the season Nov. 3-5 with the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
