WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team will return to action this weekend when it begins ACC play by hosting Georgia Tech and Clemson. The Demon Deacons are set to host the Yellow Jackets on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Tigers on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Friday's match with Georgia Tech will be broadcast live via videostreaming online. Fans can access the broadcast at www.ACCSelect.com.
Wake Forest enters the weekend 4-5 overall after going 2-1 at the Black and Gold Challenge. The Demon Deacons have played three straight five-game matches, earning wins over George Washington and Davidson. The Deacs fell to Winthrop, who took home the Black and Gold Challenge title, in five games on Saturday.
Wake Forest has never played more than three five-game matches in a row. The only other time in program history that the Deacs have played three straight five-game contests was in 2004 when they went 1-2 against Winthrop (L), Maryland (W) and Virginia (L).
Georgia Tech enters the weekend 8-2 overall. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 3-0 showing at the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Midtown Invitational last weekend.
Wake's match with the Yellow Jackets will be the 27th all-time between the two schools. Georgia Tech holds a 19-7 advantage over the Deacs, dating back to 1983. Last season, the two teams split their meetings. Wake Forest defeated Georgia Tech in a thrilling, four-game match in front of a packed Reynolds Gym on Oct. 29.
Clemson, who will play at Duke on Friday, enters the weekend 5-3 overall. The Tigers have won four matches in a row after dropping three of their first four to open the season.
Wake Forest and Clemson have met 27 times previous to Saturday, with Clemson holding an 18-9 all-time advantage. The teams split last season's series, as each won their respective home match. The Deacons defeated the Tigers in four games on Oct. 28.
After this weekend, Wake will hit the road to face in-state rivals North Carolina and NC State. The Demon Deacons will travel to Chapel Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 27, to face the Tar Heels at 7:30 p.m. Wake will then square off against the Wolfpack on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. in Raleigh.
