Wake Forest vs. NC State
January 13, 2007
Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser
On NC State's shooting percentage:
"I think the first half was a familiar thing. We had 11 turnovers, and did not shoot the ball well from the free throw line. We put ourselves in a convoluted position, and they definitely beat us off the dribble."
On the declining level of difficulty towards playing in this stadium:
"They shot such a good percentage. It was 20 to 20 and they closed out the first half, and we were certainly dominated on the defensive end. So your point is well taken."
On Ishmael Smith's low confidence level:
"I think it is because he has struggled. He takes it very personally. He is not at that point mentally where he can overcome that."
On the level of the players' confidence:
"I think it is just because we aren't playing well. We aren't giving ourselves a chance. But there is a lot of basketball left, and as I told the kids I am not going to give up on them and they cannot give up on each other."
On being young each year:
"Ideally it doesn't happen like that. Our senior class was initially Visser and Chris (Paul), and we only have one scholarship in the junior class. When we first got here we had to recruit a lot of guys and that was the Justin Gray class. So no I did not foresee us being this young."
Wake Forest senior Kyle Visser
On how NC State tried to contain him:
"The 1-3-1 really hurt us up top. They had two or three guys on me a lot. They played really good defense. You have to give them a lot of credit."
On how it feels to lose to NC State:
"It's very frustrating. They're a good team. They don't have a whole lot of players, and we needed to take advantage of that, but we didn't. You can't take anything away from State they though. They came in here and got the win."
Wake Forest senior Michael Drum
On how it feels to lose to NC State:
"It's very frustrating. It's just tough. We have such a young group. It's very hard on them. Kyle (Visser) and I are out there trying to lead. Losing at home like this is tough on all of us."
On how NC State played:
"They kind of came out and played like they had nothing to lose. It seems like this was kind of their coming out party today. Unfortunately it had to happen against us. They played a pheonemanl game. They're going to be even better once they get (Engin) Atsur back."
NC State Head Coach Sydney Lowe
On the game
"I thought it was a very good ball game. Our guys came out with great intensity on the defensive end and we executed very well on the offensive end. We had some guys come out off the bench and give us some good help. I was happy with the way we played."
On attacking the zone
"Our guys ran the zone attack and they found the open man. We moved the ball well and cut well. We were fortunately able to find the open guy, and that is our goal."
On Kyle Visser
"He is a load down there. A lot of times he gets the ball and he is already at the hoop. So we just tried to play over top on him a good bit and our guards were very active. We try and keep him from getting the ball a lot."
