Wake Forest vs. NC State
Wake Forest is looking to avenge a January loss to NC State, as the Wolfpack come to Joel Coliseum for a 7 p.m. ACC matchup on Thursday. The Demon Deacons are wrapping up a stretch of three-straight games at home. Wake enters Thursday's contest 9-12 overall and 0-7 in the ACC. The Deacs are coming off a 58-45 loss to Georgia Tech on Sunday. NC State enters the game 15-7 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. The Wolfpack has won each of its last two games after head coach Kay Yow's return to the bench.
Closing in on Freshman Records
Tiffany Roulhac and Mekia Valentine are closing in on a pair of Wake Forest freshman records. Valetine is within five blocks of the single-season freshman record of 43, set by Lisa Dodd in 1986-87. Valentine has 38 blocks on the season, an average of 1.81 per game. At that rate, Valentine will most likely fall just short of Dodd's program record of 61 blocks in 1987-88. Valentine already holds the single-game record with nine against Western Carolina on Nov. 14. Roulhac is within 15 assists of the single-season freshman record of 79, set by Wake Forest Hall of Famer Amy Privette in 1983-84. Roulhac has 64 assists on the year, an average of 3.05 per game.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons are coming off a 58-45 loss to Georgia Tech at home on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 18-2 lead, courtesy of a 16-0 run early in the first half. Tech held Wake scoreless for a nine-minute stretch in the first period. The Deacons pulled to within 32-27 early in the second half, but a 9-2 Jacket run put the game out of reach. Georgia Tech committed 17 turnovers but scored 23 points off Wake Forest's 20 miscues. Yolanda Lavender was 0-for-5 from three-point range, putting an end to her 22-game streak of hitting at least one three. Lavender finished with 12 points.
