Post-game Quotes
Florida State Head Coach Bobby Bowden
"We couldn't get a running game going and they did. It got into a battle of quarterbacks and their quarterback made the play down there that won the game."
"I didn't think they'd kick a field goal. I thought they'd try to run the clock out, but it was smart on their part and ended up winning the game."
"We just didn't execute there at the last. It was penalty after penalty after penalty after penalty. We helped them too much. They've got a good football team, though. They're well-coached and they out-executed us in the second half."
"Our kids did keep fighting back. That's one thing I can say good about them. We answered every score they got except that last field goal."
"What we did in the first half, we did opposite in the second. They've got a good team there, no doubt about that. They could very easily be 6-0 right now."
On why the running game didn't work:
"Well, you know we lost Hudson right off the bat in the third quarter and we had to play somebody that probably didn't know what he was doing that much. We're just not getting it done there."
Wake Forest Head Coach Jim Grobe
On the running game in the second half... "We tried to run the ball inside more. We tried orbits and reverses and they were sitting on those on the perimeter and they weren't going to let us have those. We popped a couple inside runs. Bowden and those guys did a great job. Our guys did a great job getting our morale up in the second half, but I think the key to our running game in the second half was getting between the tackles."
On Riley's performance...
It says a lot about Riley. The first pick was silly. The other pick was a gamble. We knew the free safety had a chance to get there. It was a homerun play. We thought our defense was playing well enough that we could try it.
On Josh Adams...
He's just special. The homerun, that's what Josh gives you. He's got a lot of potential, and he's going to just get better and better and better. He's got a lot of good speed.
Micah Andrews
In the first half we were just feeling them out and everybody got their first hits. We knew that in the past we could play with these guys. We just did a great job of moving those guys out of the way.
In the south when you step on the field and you see that arrowhead you feel like you're playing with some football gods. Once you go out there and bring them down you feel like you can really play with these guys. It feels great.
Josh Adams
I said let's test Florida speed against North Carolina speed. I just broke to the right side and took off.
It's a great feeling to be a contributor to our football program. That's all I wanted to do and I'm doing that.
Riley Skinner
This win feels pretty good. Not just for me, but we needed that for Wake Forest this year. A lot of people were doubting us. It wasn't a pretty win but it was a win over a top 25 team that has beaten a lot of good teams. This is great for our confidence.
It was tough. Their defense made you earn every yard that you got.
I've definitely got to cut down on the interceptions or we're not going to be very successful down the road. It's not something we're going to take likely. It hurts to learn from experience but I'm going to learn from it.
During the game it's frustrating, but you've got to have a short memory out there or you're just going to get down on yourself. In high school I learned that and ever since I've tried to have the shortest memory possible.
We have so much confidence in our defense. They come up in big situations and big games. It's not something we want to just get comfortable with, giving it over to the defense. But it definitely doesn't rattle us and we know we're going to have another shot with them there.
