The Wake Forest men's golf team, ranked 17th in the nation, will begin play on Sunday in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
After a practice round on Saturday, Oct. 20, the Deacons will open play in the 54-hole tournament on Sunday. A total of 18 teams will be competing including Arizona, Arizona State, Central Florida, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Southern California, South Carolina, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, and Wake Forest.
The tournament, now in its fourth year, will be contested on the Arnold Palmer-designed Isleworth Golf and Country Club. The 7,493-yard course is a difficult track, with a slope of 142 and a course rating of 77.5.
Wake Forest's line-up will include seniors Webb Simpson and Chris McCartin, junior Dustin Groves, sophomore Brendan Gielow and freshman Chris Cannon.
Simpson, the 33rd-rated college player in the nation this week by GolfWeek, is coming off a four-under 68 in the final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges last Sunday. He was Wake's low scorer in the tournament at seven-under 209.
The Deacons were eighth in last year's field of 18 at Isleworth. Wake finished fourth in 2005 and seventh in 2004.
McCartin and Groves are each playing at Isleworth for the third time. Groves was WFU's top finisher last year, finishing second overall at one-over 217.
