All three of this week's "Stars of the Week" were 2006 Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award semi-finalists.
Wake Forest junior Sam Swank connected on field goals of 32,26 and 52 yards and was a perfect 5 for 5 in extra points as the Demon Deacons shellacked Navy 44-24 at Annapolis, last Saturday afternoon. Swank is hoping the third time will be the charm. He is a two time Groza semi-finalist and has also been a Ray Guy Award semi-finalist for his punting prowess.
Jeremy Ito helped Rutgers break Cinderella's Slipper last Thursday night.
The Scarlet Knight senior kicked field goals of 26,40 and 51 yards to contribute to the 30-27 defeat of the University of South Florida, knocking the Bulls from their vaunted #2 ranking in the BCS standings. Ito was also three for three in PAT's. He hasn't missed an extra point in 31 tries this season.
It was a bittersweet Saturday for Florida State senior Gary Cismesia. His perfect 5 for 5 day was wasted when two turnovers led to University of Miami touchdowns and erased the Seminoles' 29-24 4th quarter lead. The Hurricanes scored the two touchdowns in a 1:15 span dashing Cismesia's performance which included field goals of 23,31,33,45, and 45 yards.
