GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is tied for 10th after 36 holes of the UNCG-Bridgestone Collegiate Championship being played at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro.
The 11th-ranked Deacons, playing without senior Webb Simpson who withdrew due to illness, shot rounds of 294 and 297 on Monday for a team total of 591. Wake Forest is tied with the College of Charleston for 10th place in the 15-team field.
North Carolina set the pace on Monday with a 294-286=580 total for a one stroke lead over Kent State and Louisville. Memphis is fourth at 583 and Mississippi State is fifth at 586.
The Deacons on Monday were led by sophomore Brendan Gielow who is at one-over 145 following rounds of 71-74. Gielow is tied for 13th place through 36 holes.
Senior Chris McCartin is tied for 29th with a four-over 148. McCartin had a 73-75 to open the tournament.
Junior Dustin Groves and freshman Chris Cannon are each tied for 49th at seven-over 151. Groves opened 73-78 while Cannon was at 78-73.
Sophomore Travis Wadkins is tied for 56th at eight-over 152. Wadkins had an opening 77 and followed with a 75.
The 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday.
