ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The third-seeded Wake Forest field hockey team will open the NCAA Tournament with Michigan State on Saturday morning at the University of Michigan. The winner will advance to face the winner of the Michigan-Ohio University match up on Sunday at 2 p.m.

"We worked hard over the season to earn a top seed," Head Coach Jen Averill said. "We have some challenging work ahead of us but we are looking forward to it."

2007 marks the ninth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships for the Deacs. Since 1999, the Deacons are 22-5 in the tournament with three titles (2002, 2003, 2004). In 2006 the Deacons defeated American, Virginia and Duke before falling to Maryland 1-0 in the final match in Winston-Salem.

The Demon Deacons hold a 7-1 all-time series lead over the Spartans, recently adding another notch to the win total with a 2-0 victory at Kentner Stadium on September 30. State's lone win came in August of 2001, when Wake dropped the away contest 2-0.
