Wake Forest vs. Miami
The Demon Deacons fly south to Miami in hopes of heating up for the stretch run towards the ACC Tournament. Wake Forest and Miami will square off in a 7 p.m., post-Super Bowl matchup on Thursday. The Deacs are coming off a 79-53 loss to NC State last week. The setback dropped Wake to 9-13 overall and 0-8 in conference play. The Deacons have six more league games before ACC Tourney play begins on March 1. Miami enters Thursday's contest 10-14 overall, 1-8 in the ACC. The `Canes have lost four straight and nine of their last 10.
Valentine Named Rookie of the Week
Mekia Valentine was named the ACC Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday. Valentine shared the honor with Virginia's Monica Wright. Valentine posted her second double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds against NC State. With five blocks against NCSU, Valentine now has 43 on the season, matching Lisa Dodd's freshman record set in 1986-87. Valentine's block total is tied for second on Wake's all-time list and is the most since 1986-87. Valentine, who is averaging 1.95 blocks per game, is 18 away from Dodd's program record of 61 in 1987-88. Valentine also broke the Deacons' single-game mark with nine blocks against Western Carolina on Nov. 14.
