WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - There's no fooling the No. 17 Wake Forest women's tennis team as it rolled to a 6-1 victory over No. 75 Maryland on Sunday afternoon at the University Indoor Courts. The Demon Deacons picked up their fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) victory to move to 12-4 overall, including a 6-2 mark in the ACC.
At No. 2 doubles, Ana Jerman and Sasha Kulikova defeated Michal Amir and Maggie MacKeever 8-1, while Alexandra Hirsch and Ashlee Davis handed Marianne Baker and Eleanor Peters an 8-3 defeat to give Wake the 1-0 lead.
Maryland (7-10, 1-6) picked up the first point in singles after Baker upset No. 60 Hirsch 6-1, 6-3, but it would be the Terrapins' only point of the match.
No. 103 Davis rebounded from yesterday's super-breaker loss with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Eleanor Peters at the second position. Jerman came away with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Amir, while Kulikova extended her streak to eight matches after defeating Elyse Steiner 6-1, 6-2.
Sierra Poske blanked Brooke Rogers at No. 5 with straight 6-0 sets, while Christine Simpson defeated MacKeever 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
Wake Forest is back in action next weekend when it hosts two Top 10 ACC opponents in Georgia Tech (No. 7) and Clemson (No. 8) beginning on Saturday at noon.
