WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jennifer Adeva has been added as the newest assistant coach of the Wake Forest volleyball program, announced head coach Heather Kahl Holmes on Tuesday.
Adeva, who spent last season as an assistant with Cal State Fullerton, will work primarily with the outside and right side hitters, as well as assist in recruiting.
"We are thrilled to have Jen back in North Carolina and coaching with us," said Kahl Holmes. "Her knowledge and experience both as a head coach and assistant will make an immediate impact on our program. Her passion, enthusiasm and ability to train players will help us take this program to new heights."
After spending a year in her native Southern California, Adeva returns to the East Coast where she coached for six seasons. She spent one season at Nicholls State (2000-01), three seasons at Tennessee State (2001-04) and two seasons at Charlotte (2004-05).
"I'm thrilled to be back in North Carolina, and I'm very excited to be coaching at Wake Forest with Heather and Chad (Willis)," said Adeva. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to coach in a very competitive ACC conference. I feel we can compete for an ACC championship."
A native of Canyon Country, Calif., Adeva spent the 2006 season coaching at her alma mater Cal State Fullerton. She helped the Titans to a 17-12 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the Big West Conference last season.
Adeva began her collegiate coaching career at Santa Ana College in 1998 as the assistant coach of the Dons, before being named head coach a year later. After a season of guiding the Santa Ana squad, Adeva headed east to Nicholls State where she was an assistant coach of the Colonels for the 2000 season.
She then spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Tennessee State from 2001-04, finishing up as the interim head coach in 2004. Adeva joined Lisa Marston's staff at Charlotte in 2004 and coached the 49ers for two seasons before heading back to Fullerton in 2006.
Adeva returned to the Titans volleyball program after playing in 53 career matches as a defensive specialist from 1994-96. Prior to her playing career at Cal State Fullerton, Adeva was a two-time All-Western Conference selection (1992-93) at College of the Canyons in Valencia, Calif. She prepped at Canyon High School in Canyon Country, Calif., earning All-Golden League and All-Santa Clarita Valley honors for the Cowboys.
Adeva has extensive experience coaching at the club level, including the Carolina Juniors "Slam" team, an 18-year-old national-level squad out of Charlotte. Adeva's team captured the 18-Gold Div. Championship in the 2006 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics. Her 17-and-under team also posted eight first-place finishes in 2004-05, including championships at the Asics Nationals in Chicago, the East Coast Championships at Penn State and the Asics Big South Qualifier in Atlanta.
She has also coached the Pacific Volleyball Club in Woodland Hills, Calif. (1993-94), the Impact Volleyball Club in Orange, Calif. (1995-98) and the Santa Monica Beach Club in Santa Monica, Calif. (1998-99).
A 1997 graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Adeva earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology before going on to obtain a master's in education from Azusa Pacific in 1999.
Adeva replaces Jill Lytle-Wilson, who accepted a coaching position at her alma mater, LSU.
