Tournament Notes:

  • With the win Wake Forest advances to take on the Texas/UC Irvine loser on Sunday at 12 p.m.
  • Brown's loss knocked the Bears from the NCAA Tournament, after posting an 0-2 record and losing to Texas and Wake Forest.
  • Today's game marked the sixth time that Brown and Wake Forest have met. The Demon Deacons' win improved Wake Forest's all-time record against Brown to 6-0.
  • The attendance for the regional's third game between Wake Forest and Brown was 3,785.

Wake Forest (34-28):

--Team Notes:

  • Sophomore first baseman Allan Dykstra was hit by a pitch in the first, sophomore shortstop Dustin Hood was plunked in the ninth and junior centerfielder Ben Terry was hit by a pitch twice in the game, bringing the Demon Deacons' season total to 112 HBP's. Wake Forest's season HBP total ties national leader San Jose State for the NCAA lead.
  • The victory moves Wake Forest's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 37-22.

--Individual Notes:

  • With his RBI double in the top of the first inning, junior leftfielder Willy Fox registered his first hit of the 2007 postseason, after going hitless in his previous five games.
  • Sophomore rightfielder Evan Ocheltree's triple in the top of the fourth inning was his team-high fourth triple of the season.
  • With his leadoff single through the left side in the first inning, junior centerfielder Ben Terry improved his current hitting streak to eight games. Terry has hit safely in 27 of his last 29 games.
  • Demon Deacons' junior starter Ben Hunter tossed a career-high eight innings and posted his eighth victory of the season. Hunter has surrendered two runs or fewer in all eight of his starts this season. His 10-strikeout effort equaled a career-high.
  • Evan Ocheltree's 3-for-4 outing improved the sophomore rightfielder to 4-for-6 in 2007 NCAA Regional play.

Brown (27-21):

--Team Notes:

  • Brown concluded its 2007 campaign with a school-record 27 victories, breaking the previous record of 25 in 2002.
  • Five of the last six and seven of the last nine Ivy League teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament have gone 0-2 in Regional play.
  • Brown changed pitcher four times in the top of ninth inning. Freshman reliever Will Weidig came on in relief of senior starter James Cramphin with two outs in the ninth, and threw one pitch, resulting in a hit by pitch. Weidig was lifted in favor of junior righthander Peter Moskal, who proceeded to hit a Wake Forest batter with his first and only pitch.

--Individual Notes:

  • Junior leftfielder Ryan Murphy's RBI single in the bottom of third inning extended his current hitting streak to a season-best 11 games. Murphy has hit safely in 26 of his last 28 games.
  • Senior starter James Cramphin tossed 8.2 innings against Wake Forest, equaling his longest outing of the season and marking the fourth time he has pitched into the eighth inning this season.
  • Junior cleanup hitter Jeff Dietz' solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning broke a combined 0-for-23 drought by Dietz and three-hole hitter Devin Thomas.
