Post-Game Quotes: Game 3 of NCAA Austin Regional
Wake Forest 4, Brown 2
Saturday, June 2 The Dell Diamond
Wake Forest Head Coach Rick Remielak
General comments:
The first thing that pops in my mind is the pitchers. For those two guys (Brown's James Cramphin and Wake Forest's Ben Hunter) to come out and throw on a day like today and get out of some jams and some high intensity situations is a testament to those guys. It wasn't an easy situation for them to throw as long as they did for the eight-plus innings; a coach just has to tip his hat to them.
On scoring runs in the first inning:
I think that was so important for us to do today, and we really needed to come through for everyone's morale. And you can see after that, we more or less got off course, (we) didn't do too much which had a lot to do with the pitcher we faced. It was very important for us to execute early.
Wake Forest RHP Ben Hunter
On his pitching plan:
Earlier this season my game plan was more of getting ahead with sliders. In the last couple of innings today, I had success using fastballs to get ahead and sliders to put them away.
On whom he wants to face tomorrow:
I'd like to see UC Irvine again, because they shut us out yesterday. We didn't come out as well as we should have yesterday, but I also think we could beat Texas if we play our game. It would be a great game. I think we are in a win-win situation with whomever we play tomorrow.
Brown Head Coach Marek Drabinski
General comments:
This was a tough one today. It was a great pitchers duel and you have to tip your hat to (Ben) Hunter because he pitched a heck of a ball game. He had us off balance for the whole game. Both teams had RBI chances in the first six innings, but both pitchers seemed to make big pitches in big spots.
On Brown pitcher James Cramphin:
Our guys battled. I thought James pitched an unbelievable ball game. He kept us in the game. He gave up two in the first, but then shut them down for the rest. I thought he was amazing. He did everything we could ask for out of our starter. I am just proud of his year after having to sit out last year.
On all the pitching changes:
Unfortunately it backfired. After the first pitch had been thrown I thought it might have been over the plate when he got hit. That is the way it goes and when I was replacing my divot there I guess that counted as a trip, which I was unaware of. I didn't say anything to Will (Weidig) which bothered me even more, but that is what the umpire said and you have to live by it.
Brown RHP James Cramphin
On his performance:
I got myself in trouble (in the first inning) and I started to overthrow the ball. I sort of settled down and mentally tried not to do too much (after the first inning). I started to hit my spots and stayed tough and knew the guys behind me would help me out.
Brown LF Ryan Murphy
On Wake Forest's Ben Hunter:
My last at-bat he threw me all sliders, and I wasn't looking for them. He caught me off-guard and I should have adjusted for that because he had been throwing everyone else sliders.
